Correct cv boot?

For those of you that have replaced an outer cv boot...

I ordered a replacement boot from Rockauto...
PRECISION Part # 5860 CV Boot
Position: W1- Front Left Outer; W2- Front Right Outer

...and upon opening the box after its arrival i noticed that the bigger, wheel side of the boot isn't round like I had expected. It's sort of a concave sided triangle meant for what the Hayne's manual calls a tripod type cv joint.

Is this correct? Should the outer boot have round inner mating surfaces or the lobed type? Thanks for your help.

you have the inner boot to the axle (trans side), i immagine you wanted the outer boot (wheel side)

The inners have the 3 concave sections built into them, and I know you can see the outers right? What do they need, just round right?

I haven't looked yet in person, but from everything I've read I was pretty sure that I needed the round boot. And rockauto had the parts labled so well...

Yup, that's the way it works. You need the outers... you get inners. Time to test their customer service.

My stockers are tri-pod inner and round outer.
The reman axles that just arrived and still in
the box are round on all four. The inners boots
are slightly bigger in the ribbed area, same number
of ribs and would probably interchange if not
for the fact the inner joints move in two dimensions.

Round on all four. Does that mean my axles have been replaced/remanufactured?

Possibly, original inners were olive green ..least mine are.
