  • Coil Spring Seats?

    Hello guys,

I'm slowly preparing my aspire front shocks for spring and noticed the coil spring seats are in dust rust. I'm not quite sure about the term, but I'm looking for the conical part located right between the coil and the top plate. I tried rockauto or advance, but none of them seem to have those.

I'd like to put as many new parts as I can in there, since cars in general here have a low life expectancy in junk yards

Any idea where to get da part?

Never heard that term, but it surely could be it. The rotten part is not flat though, it's conical, with a groove for the end of the spring to sit in.

It's called an upper spring seat and there should also be a formed rubber part that fits on top of the spring before it goes into the upper spring seat. I've never needed to replace that part, although I have had to scrounge around for those rubber insulators.

Well I guess I'll need that part too then. Where have you found that rubber insulator?
Still looking for a way to buy a new upper spring seat.

Sheesh, I use slang on a car owners site and get called on it !

You might look in local yards for new wrecks with the same diameter
spring and possible spring seats and insulators.
The other option would be to have some complete struts shipped
from rust free areas like here and in California inland.

Concerning slang, the only thing is that it's hard to search for a part with the name "top hat". But it surely helps, I'm the newbie here

Well I guess I'm on the road to the FS / WTB forum.
              Thanks fellas.

A junk yard or the FS/WTB section here is about the only place I know where you will be able to get those parts unless you would stumble across someone that has some NOS. (new old stock).
