  • fuel pump problem?

So I am talking to this guy who wants to get rid of a 1990 festiva i am pretty sure it is an L trim but ill be getting photos in the morning, he said that he thinks it is the fuel pump not getting power that is the problem but he also said that its a new fuel pump.

I have 3 days to save it before it goes to scrap yard, what could the problem be? If it was just the fuel pump not getting power would i be able to hook a battery straight up to it for the 60 miles that it would take for me to get home?

Any other ideas of what it could be?

pull the access pannel and test for voltage to the pump with the test plug jumped (near the booster).

also, check to hear the pump run while manualy pushing the VAF flapper door in with the key in the run position.

      You have a festiva manual?

Check the VAF flapper is moves freely.

Or you can use the connector near the brake booster to jumper the pump to run.
Which jumper someone else will have to chime in as I do not have my manual with me.

Or you can give me the address and I can come and get it!
Of course I already have one car I have as yet to pick up.
      Soon I hope, soon though!

yea I have a 91 car and shop model i am sure nothing changed too much between these two years. I am hoping it is something stupid like the switch in the trunk got flipped somehow. Then I would have another festiva for 350 dollars. If it does not get off his lawn in 3 days he says he is going to scrap it. I don't want this to happen. I am going to have to drive an hour and a half to get to where it is at so I am trying to figure out all of the easy fixes before i get a trailer and tow it home.

Uh lets see, he wants you to pay $350 for it in it's current none running state or he will scrap it for what, $125?
Just seems a little off to me!
Good luck with the rescue though!

yea i don't plan on paying the 350, id give him maybe 200... a lot of coordinating and resources going into it on my end.

Ill post pictures tomorrow when he sends them to me

It's better to tow a questionable car than drive it long distance. It might blow a hose or something in the middle of nowhere and you'll have to leave it because you don't have a certain tool or part with you. By the time you get back it could be vandalized or towed away.

Plus if he sees you get it running on his property he might magically all of a sudden want more money from you!
