  • Seats rails problem! (Pride LX)

    Hello everyone

My name is Francisco, I'm from Chile and I have a '97 Pride LX - hope you guy's don't care.

My problem is that the seats are moving too much - they have some "play", like if you push the back of the seat, the seat will move back and forth. I've just applied WD40 to the rail bolts and took it out of the car to better check the rails. From what I can see, theres a big gap between the fixed rail and the moving rail, and that's what's causing that play, as far as I know.

Now, while browsing your forum for help and hints about this issue, I found this thread:

Discuss enhancing your Festiva or Aspire interior and exterior (including custom paint, bodywork, seats, etc)

This is the post from sir bravekozak:

There are two roller bearings held in a plastic cage inside each seat rail.

I think that's my problem, because I couldn't see that plastic cage, holding the pair of bearings. Booth rails where touching each other (I had the seats upside down above my table to check the rails, so there wasn't anything that would keep them separated). I must add that it was a real pain to adjust seat position when sitting in the car.

My question is, do you guys know if this situation is normal to Kia Pride cars? Or maybe my seats are missing the welds on either side that mr. bravekozak mentions, and thats why my bearings aren't there??

I would love to swap seats with aftermarket or maybe from a donor car, but I don't know what would be necessary to adapt the new rails to this car. Maybe you guys can provide me with pictures from a good condition original seat and the rails?

Lastly, sorry for asking so many questions, and from my many english mistakes. I'll try to help more to the others forum members from now on, and not just leeching info and experience from you. Thank you.

your post is more understandable than most of our english speaking members (especially those under the age of 25). so don't appologize, you're doing VERY well.

if it comes down to needing newer rails, you can get them from the US Aspires, they should bolt right in without modification.

Here is a link with more pictures of the tracks and rails. Aspire track are slightly different, mainly the inside rail length.

^ fresh, is that '97 pride still the festy chassis? i thought the changeover was at the latest 96 to the aspire chassis (save for the Sapia in Iran)

Thank you freshtiva! That was fast, and yea I'm liking this forum a lot :-)

Yup, those are the little thingies I don't have , dang.

I think trying to buy just those things would be too expensive (junkyard owners here are the worst people ever). Maybe I should try to find the complete seats? We don't have any Proteges here, but I think I read somewhere (in this forum, too) that Ford Escort seats will do, right? Do you think these will be an easy swap?:

I hope the pictures are enough, if you need any other data to know if these are the right model, tell me and I'll ask - they're asking about 80 UDS for the two front seats.

Edit: Thanks all you guys for your responses, I'm loving this forum!

Looks like there are a few guys after these seats, too. If you guys can confirm that they are an easy swap (I know the term 'easy' is very relative with this kind of job, but you know what I mean), I'll buy them right now.

"Your" should be capitalized, "English" should be capitalized, "So" should be capitalized, "Apologize" has one "p". Don't hate on the under 25 crowd, Bro...

                        picky picky.... lol

The funny thing is, i had originaly spelled apologize with one "p" and didn't think it looked correct... oh well.

besides, those are MINOR gramatical errors (and one spelling), vs. the 4 and 5 line runon sentances with NO grammar whatsoever.

                          Why "english" should be capitalized?

On topic, what do you think about those Euroscort seats? I'm thinking that maybe it isn't a good idea, as it seems I would still need the original seat rails in perfect working order.

^ the incorrect use of grammar is nearly epic...

... and Windy, you CAN swap rails to make other seats fit, provided the on center rail dimentions match between the old and new seats. No fab nessisary.
