  • Fresh Air Output

My recently tagged '92 does not put out much air from the fresh air circuit compared to my to other 2 cars. When I switch from RECIRC to FRESH I can hear the door slamming against it's stop. I also pulled the glovebox and checked the movement. All the levers have full range. I park under a pine tree but I don't see any needles in the cowl area and none blow out while driving. Even with the fan on 3 I get very little heat, defrost or air.

Is there something I can open because I can't see anything in the cowl area.

Blow it out with air while its out. If it has a nest put some of those
ac mold drops in there to take out smells.

Thanks, I'll try it weather permitting.

Finally got around to getting the heater blower out. Stuck arm into duct as far as possible (to heater core). No nest, obstruction, or pine needles. Where else could there be a blockage?

The air has to flow through the heater core. Perhaps there is something blocking it. I'm not sure if there's a way to get at that side of the core without pulling the dash out. You may be able to see it from the fresh/recirc door.

I pulled the glovebox and can see the fresh air door working but don't know how to open the ductwork to peek inside.

Is it an A/C car? If so you can loosen the metal collar between the evap coil and the heater, slide it towards the evap coil and it will give you a gap big enough to see and possibly feel the otherside of the coil. If its non-a/c it is even easier, all you do is pull a pin and accordian the black piece of duct out and look right in.

I've never done this to the heater but in similar situations a piece of wire with a hook bent into the end can fish out invisible bockages.

You need to look in the area Kart is sending you to and look, fish like above , use a
blow gun..If you are moving there is air pressure out front, follow the trail in and through with these methods as well as what FestYboy had you do earlier. There
                        is a reason somewhere!

If I can get a hold of a gas-powered leaf blower I'm going to stick it in the blower hole and try to blast the obstruction out through the cowl. If that doesn't work I read that the evap housing is removable without dash removal. Would that give me some access to the entry portion of the vent system?

                            Teachable Moment!

Pulled the evap case. After wasting more time trying to reach the obstruction from the plenum I realized that ALL the fresh air enters the plenum on the extreme right side of the dash. I wasted more time running a wire up through there which immediately came out the cowl. It must be the evap case! Sho nuff, I saw some evidence of a nest but more importantly I noticed that there was almost no clearance between the evap and the case wall. I split the cases and removed a handful of rodent nest. Not much, but it wouldn't take much. I reassembled it without the evap (car has no compressor). Value of this car just went up to $175!
