  • B3 EFI Ignition timing - what wire to jumper?

Does anyone have a pic? I thought it would be slightly obvious, but it's really not... there are a bunch of "loose" wire packs under the hood for various things that aren't present.

Someone mentioned before that I could just disconnect the wire from the coil and run a positive jumper from the battery to set the base timing, but I'm not sure that's accurate... the ECM doesn't set timing by altering the coil signal.

I've got a long trip ahead this weekend, and as it sits, I can't climb a 4% grade at more than 35mph because of the "nails in a tin can" sound. I don't feel like breaking out the Golf and using my phone as a speedo, but I will if I can't get this fixed by tomorrow. :/

Thanks. I'll be working on it between rain drops, I suppose.

The distributor is now advanced as far as it will go (top toward the firewall) and the engine seems to run ok, but anything more than half throttle and it starts missing and sputtering under load...

        Any clues?
