    Another weber carb question.

    Hello all.
    I am currently re-installing the intake manifold (b3) and installing a weber carb.

    My question is; In between the stock manifold and carb there is a black plastic "plate" not too dis-similar to a thick gasket only it has wires and a plug attached. I don't know what it is or what its for but do I need to reinstall that also?
    I have removed all emission/enviro junk if it's anything to do with that..
    Keen to get this done today.

    It is a fuel heater. I got rid of it when I installed my Weber.
    Could probably be used with the Weber...if you wanted to.

        Only necessary for -20C starts (like in the Great White North of Canada. Leave it off.
        By the way, it was +16C in Toronto today.

          It was 70* yesterday, and 63* today here in STL.

            soon worked out it wouldn't fit in the weber adaptor anyhow.

            Oh, and it was 102° here today..

              I am installing the Holley-Weber 2bbl Escort on an 88 Festy. I did not use that plastic plate from the stock carb setup. After I got it running and everything heated up it stalled and wouldn't restart. It was flooding and I could hear bubbling in the carb. I am now making a 1/2" thick phenolic [micarta] insulating spacer to go between the carb adaptor and the stock aluminum manifold, hopefully keeping some of the manifold heat from the carb.

                  Everything is stock and original on the fuel pump setup except that the output line goes to the new carb instead of the original one. The car ran fine until heat built up in the engine.

                    Up here we get winter blend fuel thats bad for that in the spring but
                    I imagine you get the same year around down there. The spacer helped
                    a little on the edlebrock AFB carbs which are bad for that but what helped
                    the most was a stack of aluminum plates and gaskets, with one plate cut
                    bigger to work as a shield. This was a "heat shield kit" If you can trace a gasket
                    and cut copies and make a shield as well that is the best cure I know of. It is four
                    or five sheets of aluminum. Put pipe insulator tubes around the fuel line to help
                    keep the fuel cool. You might have to find that stuff on the net!!

                      Made and installed the spacer under the adaptor. Carb now gets a little warm to the touch after prolonged driving. Before the carb finally gets a little warm it feels cold, i mean cold cold with condensation on it like an ac line. Must be because of the ethanol [alcohol] in the gas. Does it ever pull strong in 2nd, had to keep it under 30 in the hood.

                        Hmmm I hadnt thought of heat soak in the carb. And it does get frikken hot round down under. I have however removed all water lines to the intake manifold and have ample venting into and out of the hood. I guess we'll see. Once I finish all the fuel lines, exhaust and top her up with oil/tranny fluid I csn actually start her.
