  • Bucking in second/third help please

I am new to the world of festivas I bought my first one a month ago it has a four speed in it and for some reason it bucks in second and third gear at a low rpm I can't figure it out it will do it in the cold or warm up to temp or not

Have you looked at the engine? Is the distributor cap free of oil and moisture inside, do the ignition wires look good, especially inside and outside the plug boot. Do the plugs look
fairly new with a gap less than .045 ? Does it have a powerful spark..around 3/4 inch ?
Is your "low rpm" under 1000 ? Car in gear or park , ebrake off, hood up, rock the car,
are there any breaks in the rubber of the engine mounts? The two on the crossmember
that goes front to rear under the bell housing in particular.

Must be carbed, right? Is it a dead spot? Remove top of air cleaner and look down into rear throat and work throttle linkage. Look for spray of gas. If none, try can of carb cleaner in gas tank before carb rebuild. Or live with it.

People are suggesting it's an ignition problem, not a transmission problem. The only time my Festiva has "bucked" was right after I intalled a new ignition control module. Immediately shut off the engine. Cautiously started it again and never bucked since.

I've seen cars buck in comedy films when people don't let out the clutch properly. Never hapened to me, or maybe it's just been too many years since I learned to drive a standard shift to remember.

It is more of a seems like it loses fuel for a second and then gets it back kind of thing. This person is a good friend of mine and I have drove the car and felt the problem. I have no idea what it might be because I have never really messed with cars with carbs.
