  • Quick Alt Question

Is it safe to clean an oily nasty alt with like, brake/electric cleaner? Not while it is running of course but should i remove the batt cable just to be safe?

The 92 Festy I've been playing with has coagulated crusty oil all over the left side of the engine compartment and engine. My guess is it was from the timing chain cover b/c there is a screw missing off one side and it is hanging open just a bit.

I would just wipe it with a rag semi-wet with mineral spirits. You might have a crank or cam seal issue if it's slinging oil.

I tried using brake parts cleaner to clean my alternator once...ONCE!

      I wouldn't suggest it.
