  • Testing Fuel Injectors.

Ok, so i re-installed my gas tank with fresh gas and my fuel pump. Tried to start it and sounds like it wants to but not catching. I was told to test the fuel injectors but im not sure about how to do that yet as i am still learning about my festy.

How do i test the fuel injectors?
Is there a type of tester needed?
If fuel is getting the the hose that connects to the fuel injectors, but not coming out of F. I. themselves what should i do?

If they are "clogged" is there a way to fix it?

Thank you all in advance for the advice.

More likely it is dirty fuel filter than all 4 injectors clogged. Also might have air in lines. Jump double connector by master cylinder with paper clip and turn key on for 5 seconds before trying to start. Connector is T shaped.

i thought it would be the fuel filter as well but i replaced it with a brand new one and sounds a little better but not much, still isnt getting fuel so the fuel injectors would seem the most logical thing to do next. but i will keep my progress posted.

this is how i test injectors(thanks gauge_half_inch.)remove the cap of the dizzy, then theres 2 12MMbolts that hold the dizzy to the head, remove them. your dizzy should wiggle out with very slight wiggling, be sure to leave it plugged in!. then turn the key on, and spin the rotor in the dizzy. you should here 4 individual clicks, or you can hold each one to be 100% positive its pulsing. this tells you your injectors are at least pulsing, Clogging could still be present. hope this helps, Kaleb.

2 bolts hold the rail in, pull them , remove then from the rail and clean out
any debris in the rail and in the injector inlet. Clip them back in the rail and
put rags in there for them to spray onto. Use above method to observe spray
pattern. Be very very careful, any fuel test on any car has the potential
to catch fire. Clean any injector that sprays bad, replace if it doesn't clean
up. If you have an ultrasonic cleaner use it.

Alternately you can send all your injectors to a shop to be cleaned.

X2! I wish I had thought of that before we went and got the noid loaner at AZ tonight for this!

Actually, I was remembering Smedley mentioning that there was a way to hook a nine volt battery to them....this is easier

Works on almost all cars with a distributor.
                  Ground housing and spin!
I keep ford distys on hand to plug and spin
because its so easy and fast and TFI fords
fail everyday..Sparks from coil can smoke
the fillings in your teeth, be careful and
if using it to fire the injectors unplug the
                  coil...

                    LOL!

Well, we put the noid tester on them, reference is there. Pulled the two 12mm bolts that hold all four in place, and lifted them away from the mani a little. Spun the motor. No joy. Pulled one out, bumped the key, tons of fuel.

His car sat for many a year with fuel in it, at an undisclosed location, when he acquired it. The gas tank was extremely nasty, so I imagine the fuel in the injectors got just as bad. Gonna try to clean them out, and see how they blow!

you need to use a battery to get them to click open and get the cleaning solution all the way thru them.

To do the above take a ww hose and grind a funnel shape on the end then slide
it over the red tube on a can of carb cleaner. hold the injector to this with one hand
leaving your thumb to actuate the can, use your other hand to make and break
the connection well away from the spray...be careful, cleaner burns like gasoline!!

It probably needs ultra sonic to remove corrosion, even then it may dribble.

I was thinking of something like that. If we need a sonic Clean I figure I can buy one for dentures from a pharmacy.
