  • cooling fan stays on all the time???

okay so im not too savey when it comes to electrical, but ive noticed that my cooling fan comes on the second i turn the key, even when the key is on acc. and it doesnt shut off till i turn off the car. ive drove it like this for the past two years but ive recently started trying to get my car in 100% working order. it kinda sounds to me like a previous owner wired it in to a direct hot, but like i said im not the best with electrical. my question is this, y would he have done that? and what do i need to do to fix it? will my fan running constantly affect my mpg?

The fan running constantly is a strain on the alternator too I have read, I also believe it is what caused the alternator to go out on my Capri.

The first place I would look is the thermostat housing, there should be a little plug attached to it, there should also be a little wire plugged into it. If it is not plugged in, the fan will run constant.

If worst case senerio, I would just run a toggle switch to it.

Or ground that plug he's talking about from your " fan switch" on the t-stat housing, onto any other ground source with the key on. If it quits your sensor is bad!

Yes, Fan on will adversely affect mileage, because the engine never reaches operating temps. Worst in winter than summer.
          what is your MPG?
          ATX or manual?

k is the sensor on the tsat itself or on the radiator somewhere? cause i went to go pull it and realized that the tsat from my parts car was on the motor i had in my car a few months ago and it stayed on too. hypothetically that one is bad too? ohh ive got a manual tranny
