Air filter hose clogged?

I looked at these hoses and in the first one there was a piece of round metal lodged in it. This hoses goes to the exhaust manifold and to the air cleaner box

not clogged, that's a restrictor and it's supposed to be there. it has everything to do with your PAIR system and how it keeps your cat alive (provided you still have one). will not DIRECTLY affect your milage or how the car runs.

So is it supposed to be in the first hose or the back one towards the firewall

first hose. it appears that the plate is clogged... should have a hole in the center of it. though as i think about it, i don't recall a restrictor being in either of my '88s or 89... is that plate solid?

or more to the point, DO YOU STILL HAVE A CAT?

It has a tiny hole but looks clogged, the part of the hose after the plate was a lot cleaner than the part before.

ok, that hole needs cleaned out for sure. you should also inspect your cat for melting/damage. without that PAIR system working to provide o2 to the cat, it can melt down ans clog causing MANY driveability issues.

Seems like I have gained a 4 MPG increase since removing the clog!!
