How do i replace the R&P?

I suck at searching, believe me I've tried.

I'd like to take it out in one piece, tie rod end to tie rod end.

I have a replacement rack and new tie rod ends, I want to compare lengths before I put the new one in.

BTW, I don't think the converter is going to come out.

It will "snake" out, use an impact to release the tie rod ends with out damage to the boots.

Undoing the steering wheel connection business has to be done beforehand, and is not condusive to a simple 'slide out slide in' procedure. Most of the steering rack bolts are accessible though and if rubber covers and protective boots don't bother you simply cut/knaw/chew them off to speed things up.
But don't look to me to buy the car when you're done.

It's already loose, from the mounts and wheel. I had to drop the trans crossmember to get it out (its an auto).

Get it out of the steering shaft, its still in the car.

I guess I'll have to remove the whole exhaust system, which I guess is.okay as it has some holes in it I need to fix.
