  • help! wont start or stay running.

so im new and bought a 1993 festiva L fuel injected 5 speed. thats been sitting for 2 years with the windows gone and snow and rain trashing it( but its repaiarable!). guy said it ran so i:
put new oil and filter in.
replace fuel pump and fuel filter.
    checked and changed all fluids.
check all vacuum lines for leaks and missing all there no leaks.

so my question. motor is getting fuel for sure, when i spry starter fluid down the flynn it runs for a second then dies, it wont start at all with out starting fluid and when i do that it only runs for a sec. what can i do?
is it sensor or the computer got wet or anything else? not sure were to start with this but i know a little so if you sya what and were im sure i can fugure it out. thank sooo much!!

the engine is NOT getting fuel... check that the inertia switch hasn't been tripped. if the injectors were firing and ther was fuel pressure, you would be up and running (as evidance of the starting fluid senerio). also make sure the intake tube is connected to the air box and the harness is connected there too. the engine will not run without them.

the inertia switch is not triped, alot of people have said that. i know the fuel pump is working because i have a clear fuel filter and can see it running into it and into injector rail. intake tube is connected and harness.

Is there any rips or tears in the intake tube. Make sure all the injector clips are on good. And make sure the connector on the vaf meter doesn't have bent ends on the clip.

If it only runs on ether, it's not getting fuel to the cylinders. Jump the fuel pump self test connection (T-shaped 2-pin connector by master cylinder), turn key and listen for pump running. If no start, clogged or inop injectors. If no pump noise, bang on tank with rubber hammer. If pump starts, pump is bad. If no pump, check relay and wiring. If car runs with self test jump, VAF or connector is bad.
