  • anyone pulled b3 with-out the 5-spd trans

    I think i'm getting bad blow-by, gonna check comp and vac tomorrow, if worse comes to worse, and i need to pull the engine to re-ring, has anyone pulled a b3 with-out removing the 5-speed trans, and put it back in?

    I think it would be more work to try to leave it in.

      I've done it a few times no problem getting it out. I've even pulled the engine on the BP car and left the festiva tranny in. It saves the hassle of removing the shafts and loosing all the tranny fluid.

        ^^^agreed.. The only suggestion is to mark the flexplate where it interferes with pass side c/v. It will come out fine, but the little 1/4" edge will catch the c/v when going back in causing you have to coax the engine back in.. if you grind a small cresent shape on the flexplate it will go back in without any hassle.

            We removed the B3 and installed the B6-ME into my dad's 5 speed without removing the transmission.

            Of course, that little piece of metal that goes between the engine and transmission caught on the axle or something. So now we have to remove the axle, bend that thing back into place, and then put the axle back in.

              I'm sure it is as long as you leave the torque converter in the tranny. Just unbolt the troque converter from the flex plate, slide the motor over a bit and remove.
