  • Ignition switch wiring question

On the Festiva ignition switch assembly theres a little plastic rectangle with two wires coming out of it, one orange and one green. It looks to be some sort of switch tied in with the steering lock. I've had a look at the wiring diagram but can't seem to locate it. Does anyone know what the purpose of that item might be?

Reason I ask is that I ordered a matched set of locks and ignition switch from Jun and the one he sent doesn't have the little plastic bit, or a space for it.

    Thanks

That little plastic thing is a switch for the buzzer when the key is in the ignition. I know this because it took me a long time to find out why my car was buzzing after I changed locks and ignition on my car.

        Here's the photos...

        Stock Festiva ignition switch

        New ignition switch...

I kind of figured that it would be for the buzzer.

        Thanks for the input.

x3 was thinking the same thing when I check the Festiva service manual (labeled as IGN KEY REMINDER SW) but wire color is different (RED-YEL and WHT-BLU). Thanks!

In the back of the barrel youll have the actuall ignition switch with all wires connected should be hold in with 1 screw pull that out and a flat head screw driver you can insert and turn the car over

It is the ignition key reminder. Ignore the wire colors.

If I unplug this the incredibly too loud and annoying buzzer will go away?

It would be a lot easier just to unplug the buzzer in the relay tree.

Awesome. Thanks, man. I'll be glad to be rid of it as my old Festiva didn't have it.

Stick your hand up there while its buzzing. Squeeze and pull the connector off the one that is vibrating. You don't have to even see it.

Brave, you really ARE brave, to stick your hand up there while it's buzzing and squeeze!
