  • B6T low compression

    cylinder 1 - 105 psi
    cylinder 2 - 80 psi
    cylinder 3 - 70 psi
    cylinder 4 - 80 psi

I can see a little bit of oil on the top of pistons 2,3 and 4.

Before installing the b6t in the festiva i had it torn down to the block with internals still installed and head off to inspect the cylinder walls, pistons, etc.. and everything look okay to the eye so i chose not to rebuild.

Does this issue sound like Piston rings have gone bad or Cylinder head issue like stuck valves?

    Any input is appreciated, Thanks.

set the engine at 90* before or after TDC and pull all the plugs. pour in some Seafoam and let it soak for as long as you can manage (be sure to put the plugs back in to keep evaporation to a minimum). when you're ready, pull the plugs, lay a towl or rag over the plug holes and crank the engine to blow out the fluid. replace the plugs and fire the engine over and immediately bring it to 2000rpm for about 30sec. then let it idle for a while to warm it up. once warm, do another compression check and record and post results.

What will this do? I have the same same problem except a little lower compression.

his numbers aren't so low that sticking rings aren't out of the question. in your case, i'd be looking for broken rings with a leak down tester.

I just did the compression test on my b6t with weisco pistons and i got 140, 120,140,140.

I was concerned about the one cylinder, I was upgrading my rods and figured i would have the machinist replace my rings as well due to the drop in the one cylinder. We i spoke to the machinist this week and he thinks it maybe in the head due to the rings still looked new! so now i need to check my head, and possibly head gasket.
