  • aspire swap questions

Thinking about an aspire swap and have some questions. I'll probably buy a whole car so i will have everything. Does this swap add any track width to the front or back? Will the festiva axles work with the aspire spindle/hub assembly? Will the aspire wheels with 175/70R13 tires fit? Should I use the aspire springs, or festiva springs? Also, is there a way to use the rio ball bearing strut mounts with the aspire struts?

When I did it I just swapped the whole strut and everything to make it easier on me cause I ran 15's. However the festy hubs will work. No track width change I believe.

Everything interchanges but there are little differences..including slight
track width changes. Slight height changes. Wheel bolt pattern are different
and will not interchange. Bigger brakes ..Longer shafts..all will interchange
        but the wheels/hubs

No track diff because you use the Festy LCAs.

Swapped one of my cars over a year ago (using Festy LCAs and Aspire tie-rods) and the arse-end (entirely Aspire-derived stuff) is inch or two wider than what's now at the front. Doesn't bother me any though.

i figured that it would have to. dont know if i want to do that because of tire clearance issues. I might just do the rio swap on the front. has anyone did that to see if the brake balance is affected much?

If you do the Aspire swap only on the front you'll be stuck with 2 different sets of rims front and back. And I rather doubt Aspire rear hubs will readily adapt to Festy trailing arms.

Don't fuss around with this concept man; lots of people have already done it before you. It's the fastest/simplest/cheapest way of getting better handling, wheels and brakes.

Aspire LCA will interchange and widen the track slightly..about 1/4 inch.
Camber will need corrected. Compressed length of CV is only about
1/8 inch difference, but extended is about 7/8 inch longer. Replacement
festy axles are longer than stock extended as they use aspire inner cv's
                  most of the time.

I wasn't even thinking about the rear. I might have to redo my string alignment on my Aspire-swapped car. It is done with the assumption that the front and rear track is the same.

My car tracked strange initially (too much toe-in) until I measured wheel base at the back VS front. You are correct that the 'string alignment' procedure will have to be revised. I use a long straightedge and chalk the pavement 4 feet behind the front wheels and 4 feet in front. Rear wheels I only use to line up one of the front wheels, with the steering wheel set at 'straight', before starting on tie rod adjustments.

I know that the bolt patterns are different. I'm also aware that the aspire hubs will not adapt to the festiva trailing arms. If you use dual pattern wheels, however, this isn't a problem. I don't any track width increase due to tire clearence. I know what offset to use with the festiva width and I dont want to be stuck with an odd size tire that is hard to find due to a wider axle. I'll probably do the Rio front swap and aspire struts to clear the 13 inch wheels out back, if I do it at all. Its just a work car, so I dont know that i'll spend any money on it that I dont have to.
