That plug is the best diagnostic tool on a Festy. Anytime there's a engine issue it should be the first thing you do. It's the only way you can hear the pump run without pushing on the vane, which requires some disassembly and a helper. Plus it won't run without the tube. Jumping the plug bypasses the VAF fuel pump switch. If it only runs with the jumper you know it is the VAF switch that's bad. It will also remedy a hot start problem like I had in my '92 before getting a new pump. Mainly it might save you from buying a new pump, which several folks on this site are willing to do without diagnosis.
