  • What is this thing?

Actually, I know what it is. It is the coolant temp sensor, on the bottom of intake.
But how in the heck does it come off!?

I pushed, pulled, squeezed gently with pliers. Its not coming off. I dont see any tabs to push in to release it. 2 things that look like tabs, are hard and not moving, prying on one cracked the tab. I can see what looks like square wire clips around the top of it, sorta like what holds in turn signal lightbulbs.

    Thanks in advance!
    Dan

Once you can coerce the little wire out of it's home (and I do mean coerce), the housing should slip off with little problem. Something sharp & pointy like an awl seems to work. Buy an extra gallon of Patience before you start.

Focustiva: Because I was told it was was impossible to fit a Focus bumper on a Festiva.

90 Degree pick tool would be your friend here... use one to undo the metal clip, comes right off then.

I've done it without undoing the clip or damaging the plastic.

I used a bent pry bar (like a screw driver handle with wide, flat tip, and 35* bend). Tip across the plastic edge, bend of bar resting on bottom of intake, be gentle. Put your finger on the opposite side to keep the plug more or less straight.

Pops off with just a little pull on the bar, clip stays on. My plugs are still in use.

Hmmm, I happen to have a small pry bar, that may be just the thing.
Its late, i'll be armed with both pry bar and pick tomorrow, if I get the chance.
My B6 arrived! Gotta go get it.

I usually wiggle them violently back and forth while pulling on them... that usually eventually unseats the clip from the hooks on the sensor. Unfortunately sometimes it breaks the plug a little. Thats why I have spare motors though lol.
