    Useful brake repair tip

    When installing new front brake pads on your Aspire, be sure to torque down the two bolts that hold the pad-retainer part of the caliper. If you leave them loose, then after 20.5 miles of mostly hwy driving, one of the bolts will have vibrated loose and fall onto the pavement, due to gravity. The result will be that when you get off the hwy and brake, you will discover that your front brakes are far less effective, and will make a grinding noise. This may upset you.

    Then you will have to carefully drive home until you discover the cause of the lost brake performance, and rectify the situation. You will do this by going to a McParts store and purchasing a replacement for the lost bolt.

    I wonder how one goes about discovering such useful tidbits?

      Check your wheel nuts while you're at it!

      We've all goofed on something somewhere along the way. Loose oil drain plug is one that happened to me eons ago. No need to relay that story except to say suddenly clattering engines do prompt me to pull over immediately.

        My goof tends to be loose battery cables. Youre so happy it fires up you connect them quickly but nothing happens for a week, and it out of the blue you lose all your radio stations, and your woman calls your car piece of crap. its something that can happen to any car and to anyone, anyone careless...

                  The same person whom I am describing in the original post also put his MAF on backwards, and wondered FOR EIGHT MONTHS why his B6D wouldn't run for more than a few seconds.

                        It had a cone filter, which fit equally well on both ends!
                        For a real mechanic, the only honorable thing to do would be suicide, but luckily I am not a mechanic. I mean the guy who did this is not a mechanic.
