  • Engine noise and low idle.

So I'm getting my festiva ready do daily use. Went to the garage to check the engine. Started easy enough, but makes a noise kind of like a power steering pump thats low on fluid (NOTE: I don't have power steering) and as it warms up, the idle gets real low. According to the tach its idling at about 300 - 400 rpm. Any ideas? Is this common?

I get a rattling noise with my engine for a bit after it's turned on, goes away after it gets warm. Although sometimes when it's cold the rpm will be a bit higher, so I doubt it's the same problem.

a sound like that is usually attributed to the ALT.

take off your belt and see if the idle and noise changes.

also wiggle and spin the WP and ALT pullies by hand.

        report back with results.
