VAF Repair

Can an oily VAF be salvaged? My '93 parts shed has been sitting for a year. It went down due to a botched crank seal job which lubricated the passenger side of the engine bay including the VAF. (There were no TB covers). It has been repaired but when I took it out after sitting all winter it stumbles when accelerating. It has new plugs, cap and rotor. I only cleaned the outside of the VAF after the oiling last Spring. But I'm thinking the oil is in the internals of the VAF.

Internals of VAF are sealed.
Oil should not have gotten inside the "electronics pack".
And probably kept it from seizing up.
A good spray of carb cleaner should clean it up well enough.

I heard if u spray it out with like carb cleaner or brake cleaner anything tht evaps quickly nd get all the oil out it will work But when u take the plug out the vaf make sure u push the wire clip thing not unscrew it or it will be ruined.

I did have oil in my electronics pack tho. When I pulled tht plug out with the screws there was oil in there

Which means either the seal has failed or there isn't a seal from the VAF flap to the potentiometer in the "electronics pack".

If there is no seal, then you might want to open the black plastic top on the "electronics pack" and give it a good clean too.
Then seal it back up with permatex or similar.

BTW, I did the same thing many many years ago!
However, I justy soldered mine back together!
