  • Help! Can't figure out why parking lights are staying on

Yesterday I cleaned my engine bay to prep for paint. The alternator got wet some and at first the charging light came on until I guess it warmed up and dried everything out. For some reason, whenever I hook up my battery, the parking lights keep staying on. I'm trying to figure out why but at a loss right now. If I pull the head fusible link fuse, the parking lights go away but as soon as I put it back in, it comes back on. Everything else seems to work fine. Does anybody have an idea what is going on? Oh, the light switch is on the off position too.

According to the wiring diagram, there is a white wire coming from the alternator rectifier that feeds the parking lamp relay. So maybe the alternator needs to completely dry out. PU241, do you know where the parking lamp relay is located? Stuck relay sounds like a good diagnosis.

Depends on the year, but given the original color of your engine bay, IIRC it is on the passenger fender wall near where your OEM VAF used to be. Don't have my manuals near me. Hopefully some one can confirm that that is the correct location.

Whoa, funny you mention that, I had to move some wire bundles around that area where my battery resides and since then, thats when it started. Awesome, that should narrow it down. Thanks!

That's correct, but I've never seen one. It's buried like the relays on the driver's side. Probably can see it on VAFless car.

PU241, I love you!! (no homo) I removed the relay exactly where you mentioned it was, cleaned it up and put a dollop of dielectric grease in it. I gently banged it a couple times on my tool box, reinstalled and lights are out. Thanks so much, I love this forum!
