    Hey gang, I've got a 1st gen b6 with a Weber. Been running perfect for about a year now. I just started hearing a "squeak squeak" sound coming from the cam sprocket area. I don't think it's the tensioner, and I ran it with no belts and the sound is still there. I change the oil whenever it starts getting brown, and take real good care of it. Worries me because occasionally people get on here with their cam locked up and the sprocket broken off. Anyone have any ideas what I should do? I used the original cam from my old B3 because of the mechanical fuel pump. She's really a gem, doesn't burn oil at all and runs great.

    Make sure none of the pulleys are rubbing the plastic timing covers. You said you were using the mechanical fuel pump. Did you install the plastic spacer between the head and the fuel pump? It's about 3/16" thick and usually sticks to the head when you remove the pump. If your HLA's are quiet, then you are getting oil to the head and the cam bearings.

      First gen B6 cam has the lobe for fuel pump as well. If your worried there might be a problem with your cam you could always install the B6 one, if you still have it.

        I'm trying to remember why I used the B3 cam. I think I found out that the B6 cam didn't actually have a fuel pump lobe. If it did I would have used it, maybe I did. It's been a year. Anyway, I got a cam out of a 90 Festy today in the JY. I will probably put it in and see what happens. I could put my performance cam back in but it kills my MPG's. Hope nothing goes wrong because I really like the car set up like this.

          Yeah, the spacer is there and I took the timing cover off. Sounds like it's coming from behind the cam pulley. Not real loud, but makes me realize something may be going wrong.
