the other side would make a noise that is really noticeable. The short one
could split a gear as the splines would swell and split around the axle shaft
then all heck would take place...were any side gears split in such a way
that would point to this? the cure is aspire or longer yet ABS aspire.

This is a G trans? I missed that, right, if so festy or aspire will not fit.
The ABS measured longer so my festy has one festiva axle and one
          ABS aspire axle.

Yes the Aspire Axle is a 1/4" longer than the festy. But as far as I know the abs axle is the same length as non abs.

I had all the CV's there when I was playing with them, it is hard to measure them
compressed and held straight but the ABS version seemed to be 1/4 inch longer.

When installed with out the nut on I had about 3/8 of an inch to pull the shaft in.
With the suspension loaded this put the cv perfectly in its operating range.

This was necessary as my engine and transmission are rolled and dropped at
the drivers side, to make all my cv angles equal. My control arms are 1 inch
              longer than stock.

Transmissions just hate you, live with it.
If it don't fit, use a bigger hammer!
