  • Quick Question

I just noticed that my passenger side cv axle has a torn boot and has a little grease coming out of it. I have to drive it to a mountain bike race tomorrow morning and I'm at work all day today, so I have no time to do anything with it. I'll be driving around 500 miles round trip this weekend. Should it be OK to drive it?

Push some CV grease up there with a putty knife and wrap it with Saran wrap.

Probably already been torn for several 1000 miles anyway. I agree, push some grease in it, seal it up with some fabric duct tape and forget about it. Pick up a new axle when you get a chance, but I would run it "as is" until it starts to make clicking noises during sharp turns. It could go another 40K-50K miles if you seal it back up.
