  • HELP!!!! Isuzu down

How can one person have so much trouble with cars!!!!!!!!

The Isuzu just broke down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

I have 3 cars, all of them down!!!!!!!!

Festy in swap mode, F150 stuck in reverse, and went out today, turn the key on the Isuzu...no start!!!!!!

It spit and almost started, then died. Acts as if its not getting fuel. Drove home 70 mph on hwy last night.
It tried to start a couple times, but now just cranking.

Anyone have any ideas of the best place to start looking? Fuel pump? Relays? Fuses?

I dont know much about the Isuzu. I can track down things, as an engine is an engine, and parts is parts, but is there anything specific to the Isuzu?

Thanks for any ideas that may help!!
    Dan

Fuses are good, under hood and under dash. Part store has a fuel pump in stock. I have no one at the moment to crank the key, while I check for fuel or spark. I know nothing about the Isuzu. I just got it 3 days ago. Heck, I had a little trouble locating the fuel line.
It had clamps on it like a vacuum line. I expected it to be like most efi apps, and it have better (hi pressure) fuel lines.
There are quite a few lines/hoses on that side. (pass side)

you might be able to jump the starter solenoids with a screwdriver (with insulated handle) to get it to crank over while you check spark

Give it a snort of carb cleaner or starting fluid. If it starts and dies then you will KNOW it's a fuel related problem. If still the same as before the "snort" then probably ignition. Could also be cam timing, i.e. belt.

I'm not sure if they use a belt, chain, or what though.

                Hope this helps.

Hey I did this. It started. Festy ...YOU ROCK! :p

Oreilly auto has fuel pump in stock. $89

There is a bunch of hoses and wires all in the same area, all by the pump. Could hardly see it up there. Had to pull them out of the way to tap tank with a mallet.

                  I then had this thought:

I hope it wasnt an electrical issue, and temp fixed it by pulling those wires by the pump :eeeeeek:

Thanks to evr'body for the suggestions, all very good ones

                  EDIT
I went out after letting it sit a few min and it started, ran fine for 10 seconds, died and wouldnt start again

Time for a new pump I suppose

the simple way to change it is to unbolt the bed and have someone help you set it off the frame that way you can get to everything and makes putting pump in really simple and easy

I'm assuming Isuzu Pup? I've had a '89 Pup 2.3 and a '90 Amigo 2.6, both EFI, awesome vehicles. In fact, I have some tail lights somewhere.

It is a 1995, pre GM involvement. Known as "Isuzu pickup". In 1996, I believe it became The Hombre, along with GM.
I have the tank out, finally located a fuel pump, and about to put it in.

I would run when I hit the tank with my trusty rubber mallet, that says pump.
                            We shall see

I think you are right there! Tuff crawlin around, here, then there, and back again, to reach those bolts!

I have the fuel pump out, and comparing them, there is a difference.

I am going to show my ignorance here, about how little I know about electric pumps

Here they are together. There is a little brass "tube" on the orig pump, but not on the replacement pump

Note that the elec connectors are different also. The neg wire does not even fit on the post of the new one

old pump and brass tube on left ...new pump on right

What is this hose for ? It attaches to that tube.

The new pump. No brass tube. Diff connectors

Question is, do I need the tube????

If not, then I can use the new pump?

I can get the connectors to fit.
