  • Camshaft Casting Numbers

Hi i have 96' WB festiva trio 1.3, recently i replaced the valve stem seals and noticed the locating dowel was broken so i went to the wreckers and got another one but i noticed that on both of them on one side they are stamped BT57 but on the other side of the old one it's stamped K4-1 and the new one K3-2.

Can anyone shed some light on why they would have 2 stamps the same and 2 different.

Awhile ago i had a Datsun 200B SSS Coupe, when they were released there was a small number of them that came out with a slightly more aggressive cam and the way to tell if you had this cam was a 3 stamped into the back of it.

So i was wondering if it would be the same sort of thing as just by looking at it all the lobes are timed the same it fits and lines up perfectly.

Also it is efi not carb so i'm not sure if that could be the reason

There must be someone on here that could point me in the right direction to find out what these numbers mean.

      Welcome to the site!

Most of us are not intimately familiar with Aussie Festivas....I believe they are what we call the Aspire in the US?? In any event, it should be the same 1.3L and I assume it would have the roller-follower style rockers (i.e. psudo roller cam). I would say the cams should be the same. My guess is the K4-1 and K3-2 are date codes or some other internal tracking codes. You should be good-to-go.

There were only 3 different B3/B6 SOHC camshafts that I am aware of: The early mechanical cam w/adjustable rockers, the hydraulic cam used with standard HLA rocker/followers, and the roller cam used with roller followers (which only came in the Aspire here in the States).

just by looking around here i thought the aspire was festiva and vice versa, and have found a few useful tips along the way searching.
just have a bit of crud left in the rocker cover to clean out then i can slap it back together.
in the mean time if i do find out what they are i'll post it up for anyone else to see.
        thanks
