I was installing rebuilt "loaded" brake caliper assemblies on one of my Seattle 93s today.
I have always found Festiva caliper attach bolt heads to require a 12mm socket. On this particular Festy, however (my first one -- bought in 2000 with 72,000 miles, now has 102,000), I found the upper right caliper bolt required a 17mm socket. I'm certain that I've never done brake work on the front of this car before.
Since I didn't have both sides off at the same time (had already finished up the left side when I found this anomoly on the right side), I didn't have 12mm-headed and the suspect 17mm-headed upper bolts side by side to compare.
Everything seemed to fit OK (torqued up normally) and the caliper slides side-to-side just fine.
Should I be concerned that I've got a bogus (perhaps not spec-strength) bolt here?
I don't have much in the way of spare bolts here in Seattle. For safety's sake, I think I should "WTB" a "proper" bolt and install it. This car is presently my Seattle daily driver.
