  • Fuel pump and CEL

Anyone know off hand if a failing fuel pump would trigger a check engine light. Last night my car was surging and every time it surged the CEL would come on briefly. Nothing obvious after a quick look under the hood.

No, none of my fuel pump failures threw a CEL.
But, also none of them failed in the way you describe.
They ran fine, then on the next start-up "no go".
I'm thinking your issue could well be somewhere else.

Ground the STI and see if it shows something.

Could be the ECM relay. The computer keeps resetting maybe?

I used my multimeter ( + cable on the STO pin of the self test output plug, - cable to ground ) and used a jumper to ground the self test input connector. I got a code of 9. Anyone know what 9 is ?

                CEL Code

Hello Fresh, the 09 code is asking to have the coolant temperature sensor checked. Good luck.

You don't need a multimeter. The CEL blinks the code.

Oh yeah ? Just ground the STI plug ? Does that work on both KOEO & KOER tests ?
