Is a 5 speed a direct swap for a 4 speed? What are the gear ratios for each? Is 5th gear an overdrive? Thanks for the help.

A 5 speed Festy tranny is essentially a 4 speed w/overdrive since the ratios are the same obviously except for the 5th gear... -KyleCosmic Blue 2008 Mazdaspeed 3 - Mostly Stock...

Is the tranny in a Festiva a M5? If so, 4th is 0.86:1 and 5th is 0.69:1. That makes 4th (in a 4 or 5 speed) overdrive and 5th is also an overdrive. the 4 speed did not have overdrive
4Th was 1:1
the 5 speed has overdrive
and 4Th gear is still 1:1
there were no other manual transmissions
only the 3 speed automatic (no overdrive either)Comment

According the the 1989 Ford Shop manual that I have ( FPS-12133-88 ) on page 16-41-52, the ratios are:
1st = 3.454
2nd = 1.944
3rd = 1.275
4th = 0.861
5th = 0.692 (5 speed only)
rev = 3.583
