  • neutral safety switch?

Just doing some wiring cleanup on the festiva and noticed the switch on the rear of the transaxle had gone wireless... as i've already replaced it once and these seem to go fairly often, I am wondering if this switch is at all vital to the running of the vehicle. Plus Jy festys all stripped. Cheers

I want to say it can cause high idle if its not working, but then I really don't know, somebody does! The neutral saftey and cpp switch work together to send a signal to the ecu.

My 86 Mustang has a sensor and wire to the ecu from the speedo cable gear head at the trans. I think that when you lift off the gas to slow and shift when cornering or are coming to a stop it lifts the idle a bit so you don't stall out. How's that sound?

That switch is a mystery. It sends a signal to the ECU the same as the manual clutch switch.

According to the 89 shop manual, The Neutral Safety Switch (ATX only) detects transaxle in -gear condition and send an input signal to the ECA which affects, air/fuel ratio, fuel pressure, iddle speed and purge flow

I don't think it is necessary. It signals neutral or clutch disengaged which is only a minute amount of operating time.
