  • In line fuel pump Q

I am going to try an electric pump on the Festy, and I was curious where the best place to install it would be in you guys opinions!
I always can count on being given good advice from y'all!

As close to the fuel tank as possible. Electric impeller pumps are meant to push fuel and not pull, like the diaphram pumps.

Thanks. Yes, this I know. I meant, where is good place to mount it on the vehicle?
      The frame? The wheel well?

Hope that link works.. cut your fuel pick up in the tank and plumb it in kind of like
the efi ones are. Use a fuel safe material to bring the wires through the hanger
top plate, like efi ones do.

If that link does not work it is advanced auto, there universal 4 to 6 psi in tank pump
for $34 and stuff like 20% off, spend $50 bucks and get...

Movin, I am going inline, not in tank.

A Carter P4070, as suggested by a Weber racing/performance site. My carby tank is not made for an in tank pump.
The link did work, though, thanks for that!

That is the exact pump kit I have sold pallets of to cure vapor lock on long wheel base
pick ups, vans and motorhomes. I don't like any of the options for hanging it on a festiva
and would still choose what I suggested. But, that pump is a pusher pump, it must go in the area where the fuel line comes down from the tank to work, left side of car near
rear suspension pivot. It will work in other places but will have performance problems
if the correct set of circumstances happen to occur.

The ease of hanging the in line in tank electric with the easy under seat access
            would be my cats meow!

I use an inline pump that looks something like the picture below. I got it from NAPA. I mounted it on the frame rail behind and below the battery. It works fine there. When I first got the pump, I tried mounting it on the firewall about in the area of the brake bias valve, but it would not pick up prime. It was too high above the gas tank.
                  You gonna race that thing?

^ Ahh, wish I had seen this before.
After buying the Carter P4070 (suggested by a Weber performance site as THE ONE to use with Weber's) and seeing it for the first time, it is HUGE! :eeeeeek:

And it needs put by the fuel tank. I would much rather have one that mounts in the engine bay.

Hmmm, I'll have to see how much that one you pic'd is. Is it self-regulating?

I've almost always used the cheapest ones I can find, and mount them somewhere on a fender well. They're not draw pumps, but as long as they're close to the level of the tank, they seem to work fine.

The second post, that poster was telling you to basically turn your stock fuel pick up into a drop-in pump by removing a section of the pick up line and replacing it with the pump.

You can mount the fuel pump on the rear inner fender behind the reinforcement. There's plenty of room there around the charcoal canister behind the rear plastic trim.

I am kinda leaning towards your line of thought. I can get 2 of the El Cheapos for the price of one of what I bought. I CAN take it back and get Mr. Gasket cheapos or similar.
I def like the fender/engine area mount!!

I'll get 2 and put one in the "Festy Rescue Box" I have in the back cargo area

When I bought it from NAPA, I asked for a fuel pump to use with a carb so I assume it is self-regulated. I installed a fuel pressure regulator because I wanted a maximum pressure of 3-1/2 psi. I know the pump will go at least up to 5 psi because I cranked the pressure regulator up that much while experimenting with different pressures. The pump I am using makes the "thump, thump" sound when pumping, and then shuts up when pressure is reached. I don't remember how much they were, but I know they weren't too expensive because I bought two of them so I would have a spare. I've never had a failure with them, but racing doesn't put the amount of hours on it that daily driving does.

I'm still using my carb tank.

Yep, thats the way! I never even considered swapping my tank for a second.
                              No need!

I bought the napa cheapo and a Mr Gasket cheapo.

I mostly didnt like the size of the Carter P4070 I had. It was freakin' HUGE! :eeeeeek:
Like 3X the size of what I have now.

EDIT: Hey, what do I do with the return line?! I seen something about that here, guess i'll have to do a search .... unless one of you fine *gentlemen* just want to tell me! :p
