  • idling problem

i cannot figure out why my 1995 ford aspire 5 speed dies when i get off of a highway or on a long trip in the city without a lot of stops at stop sighn or lights. i have checked the basic things out and they seem ok. thanks for any help because this is starting to agravate me.

just to clarify, "the basics" include what, per se?

i have a sneaking suspecion (sp) that your IAC isn't hanging open to catch the idle drop once you close the throttle. but i need more info to determine a course of action.

well i cleaned the mass airflow sensor and replaced the sensor in the air cleaner box and it idles better than before but still cuts out after i get off the highway. do you have to take off the iac to clean it with gumout or can i leave ot on and squirt gumout in the openings where the hoses go?

My Mustang has a speed sensor that causes the ecu to pick up the idle a bit when you slow down and shove in the clutch so it won't stall. Don't know if the Festy has this feature.
