has anyone ever taken the sunroof out of a festiva and installed it in another? the part car i just bought has one and i would like to install it on mine. i was just wondering if it would be as easy as it seems like it would be. only thing is cutting the hole, don't wanna screw up my body. if anyone has any info that would be great.
    thanks

sun roofs are usually dealer installed aftermarket items

just make sure that you make an exact template

I am not an expert on Festiva sunroofs... with that said I can offer relevant general advice ..

You're talking about a car that is over 10 years old... rubber hardens and becomes very hard to work with in much less time than that. transferring the seal without additional sealant guarantees leaks.

I don't know if the sunroof was a factory option or dealer installed.. If dealer installed it should be easy enough to transfer... BUT a new sunroof from PepBoys would be easier still.. if transferring the sunroof buy a "butyl rubber" windshield setting strip (about $15) ,, most auto parts stores carry that for GM and MoPar windshields.. it will ensure a leak free rattle free fitment.

Most factory sunroof cars have a different roof structure or at least an additional crossmember to support the opening.. in the case of fox chassis Mustangs (1979-1993) the entire roof of sunroof cars was different.

Cutting the hole is simple with a "nibbler" ,, you don't have one or you wouldn't be worried about messing up your roof .. second best is a sabre saw with a very fine metal blade.

weird thing is that there are two ford symbols on it. i didn't think it they ever put a sunroof on a festiva but the sunroof looked really nice and the ford symbols fit perfect. i'll try and take some pics this sat. do you have to put the pics on another site and link to them? i'm kinda new and haven't had time to figure the pics out. any help is much appreciated as i'm new to mods like this. the car is a 91 gl by the way. also, after i take what i want off of it i'll gladly give any other part off of it that someone wants for free, just shipping. i'll try and take some pics so you have an idea of what's there. no sense in them just crushing the rest.

        thanks,

i cut mine in myself. its not too dificult as long as you take your time and cut with something that wont leave your roof all wrinkley. i used a jigsaw which didnt work too well. a dremmel wheel will do the best i think. only real problem i ran into was making the headliner just right bc i didnt have a flange to hold it up. also you have a support brace in the roof right between the windshield and your interior light. that needs to be cut as well. and as far as the seal i used a tube of clear silicone from walmart. it hasnt leaked in the year i had mine...good luck
