Going from the idea you've never had the timing belt off...You need to make sure the timings right. The distrib rotates counter clockwise as you look at it standing at the drivers side fender, The firing order is 1-3-4-2. Rotate the engine so the rotor in the distributor points at the number one spark plug wire, then check to see that timing mark at the pully is lined up at the "T", or idealy at 10 degrees. Or vise versa, Line up the pully first, then pull the distrib cap and see that the rotor is pointing at the number one spark plug wire.
The Spark plug gaps are supposed to be .039-.043 (in.) (note 22b) You do not "re-gap" platinum or iridium style spark plugs, you buy them pre-gapped.
You need the vac line to the fuel pressure reg hooked up, because remember, the fuel pressure reg is controlled by the ecu as well as vacuum now. Make sure there's no fuel coming out the vacuum line port of the fuel pressure reg. Make sure the fuel supply "in" is from the fuel filter to the side of the fuel rail without the pressure reg. The port from the pressure reg goes to the "return" line. Make sure there's no open vacuum ports on the engine especially the throttle body. Make sure the coil, ignitor and condenser brackets are grounded well or it will fire erratically or not at all.
