  • Gas Smell

Every once in a while I can smell gas [gasoline] in the car while driving. It comes and goes and doesn't seem to matter how full the tank is. Any ideas?

Take off the left rear plastic liner, pull up the carpet back there, and check all the fuel and vapor lines coming out of the gas tank and one vent line into the unibody floor. I've had the gas smell in the car I had to remove the vapor line to the floor to make a bigger hole to get the rear axle bracket nut to release the bolt for a suspension swap. The result was the line did not seal like before and the gas smell comes and goes.

You might have a similar, though not exact, issue.

What year is it? My carby was doing that and it ended up being the fuel pump. It was leaking off and on and then finally I smelled it all the time because it was always leaking.

Thanks for the comebacks. This one is a 91 fuel injected.
By the by, is the left side the driver side?
