  • won't start in the rain

So twice now my festy won't start but only when its been raining and its been setting. One time it started just fine when it was raining. Both times it was when there were no other issues going on just went out and she won't start. I figured condensation in the cap. Pulled it off it was dry sprayed some WD in it but it still won't start. Anybody got any ideas what is getting wet and causing this to happen?

Get some new spark plug wires if they look old.

I'm not sure what it might be, but you can try and run a hose over the car and see when it won't crank, then pop the hood and see where the water issue is.

Check the plug that supplys the power to the coil. And check the wire that runs from the coil to the Dizzy. Look for white/green corrosion at these conections. This is simple to fix........

Yeah I pulled that wire to make sure on it. It was clean still hit with some WD. I just pulled the cap end though. I didn't mess with it much I spent all day working on my wrecked truck so I only fiddled with it for about 10 minutes then headed in for the night.

There's a couple of tricks you can do here. One is to wait for a dry night and take a look under the hood when the car's running when it's very dark out. You'll be looking for any sparking. If you see sparking, look with a flashlight and see if you can id where it's occurring. Another thing is, on a dry day start the car and while it's warming up, Lightly spray water around the engine, coil areas and spark plug wires trying to avoid spraying the spark plugs directly. When the car stumbles, there's your problem.

When it wont start, you can spray WD-40 on various areas of the cap and wires, and it will start when the area that is split or cracked, allowing moisture in is saturated with WD-40.
                WD is a water displacement!

You do need new wires and/or cap. One or the other are bad.

Yeah I fogged them but didn't really soak them I think I'll just pick up a new cap and wires today. I just went outside and tried it and it fired right up.

Cheapest is to wipe the ignition components with a dry rag.

The WD-40 finally had time to work itself into the cracks, since you just "fogged" the wires.
