  • Inner Tie-rod replacement

The local alignment place won't do the alignment without me replacing the inner tie-rods. I noticed on FMS the tie-rods come in coarse and fine thread? Are most Festiva's predominantly one or the other? What size inner tie-rod removal tool needs to be used?

    TIA

Crescent wrench. You need to remove the boot and then just unscrew the inner tie rod.

Don't know about the threads being coarse or fine.

Its been a while since I replaced the boots. There's enough room to swing a crescent wrench around under there? Or can you turn the rack far enough to get the tie-rod to stick out into the inner fender area?

I did the passengers side on mine. I just turned the rack enough to get to it. The drivers side is more cramped but I think you should be able to get in there.

:?: Mine didn't have one. It was just real tight. I used loctite when I assembled it.

Just replaced both sides on my 92. It takes a 24mm open end wrench, the bottom out roll pin will back out as you loosen the tie rod end. As far as getting to them I had no problem, my engine is out. But there are rubber splash guards that pull right off with 2 plastic push nuts just over the top of the ends might give you enough room to work. Good luck....

Thanks for the description. I may not get to it this weekend, have 5 other car and house projects ahead of this one.
