  • Fusible link replacement with blade type fuses

A few weeks ago my new daily driver left me stranded. It turned out it was the fusible links. One of the blades inside the brown box broke off. I found this at Advanced Auto:

    Part# 156000620

This and a few connectors and the problem is fixed. Now I can use standard fuses. I had to extend the wires a few inches and crimp on some connectors.

you do know that they make big fuses for our fusible link holders , right?

and as for why the fusible link in the first place,
fusible links are known as slow blow fuses, they do not blow immediately, they are very forgiving
regular fuses just go pop and that is it

The reason I had to switch the box out was that the blade inside broke off. No way to put in a new link. In my other festivas I have the replacement cartridge type fuses.

In my experience, fusible links can very well go 'pop' just like fuses. In fact, it's more of a BOOM. Normally, they just whimper out. And if the right ones die on you, you are definitely screwed, in fact you may not even be able to put on your emergency lights as your vehicle becomes disabled.

Matt, when I installed my new fuses ,couple weeks ago, I noticed that I had 1 spade that was just a little more wiggly than the others when I was straightening them up for the new fuses , so I will be looking for one of those soon .
          Thanks for the PN.
