  • automatic speedometer issue help needed

    ok heres the skinny , the cluster and cable are not the issue , both work not a broke cable , but the thing on the top of the trans that makes the cable spin is not functioning at all in other words the gizard inside the trans that makes the cable rotate is not rotating , has anyone had this issue ? How hard to fix ? Im not pulling trans out for this i may just use my gps thanks everyone

    I could be wrong but I think the speedo drive cog meshes with the diff ring gear. So it must be the drive. Hold the cable and spin the gear to check.

      Festy autos and manuals, and Aspire manuals, use the same drive unit. One of mine split (the nylon gear) a few years ago which caused a jumping speedo needle.

        Mine cracked bad and now I have a non working speedo. So I just use an app on my iPhone for speed.

            i tried the speedo with the cable hooked to a drill and spun it and speedo works fine the thing inside the trans doesnt move at all when driven and i can freewheel it so im assuming its time for the android speedometer thanks guys

              yeah sounds like what i found with Rhode's car, the drive ring on the diff carrier split, thus having no tention to stay in sync with the carrier and therefor not be able to drive the speedo cog.
              Trees aren't kind to me...

              currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),
              94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.

                You might have got lucky and the little clip that holds it in place popped off. But still not worth taking the tranny apart.

                  Keep an eye out for another drive gear. I can feel for you now that I'm running around with 13-14 inch tires and a mph speedo; none of it makes sense even though the needle in the cluster moves with the speed.

                    i mounted a tom tom and wired it direct over the face of the speedo works awesome looks better plus i got directions if needed lol
