  • Help: VSS wire or Tach wire for cruise install

I am hoping to install a Rostra electronic cruise control on a 92 GL automatic. I need to locate a VSS (variable speed sensor) wire and/or a tachometer wire, but I'm not sure where to find. Rostra has never installed a kit on a festiva, the rep is telling me there is probably two wires coming out of the trans. He is comparing it to an escort of the same model year.

Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated

you need a speedo cable adapter (built in sensor), OR pull the tach signal from the yellow/green wire at the coil.

Help: VSS wire or Tach wire for cruise install

Under the hood at drivers side firewall there is the plugs. The single one is for tach. I think it is a different color than the others.

Second all of that, on my Midtronics unit I ran a tach signal but be warned, I was limited to about 70mph

Thanks everyone! I am hoping to get some time this weekend to work on it. Here's hoping that 55mph in my automatic is not equal to 70mph in your 5spd, kingfish

My 91 5spd has factory cruise control on it. Maybe all stock harnesses have the wires.

denguy, is the factory unit electronic or vacuum? I would love to know where the plugs are located under the hood. Maybe even a pic?
