My dad's '96 Aspire lit the charging system light a week ago. Went out and threw my multimeter on it, and it was putting out 15.9v. Okay, the regulator is shorted. Changed out the alternator, same problem with the rebuilt one. Warrantied that one, and now the second one is doing it as well. All 3 units passed every other test. What am I missing here?

See if the voltage from the ignition is less than the voltage at the battery wire. This would be the little wire on the Alternator and the big wire
with the nut on the alternator.
You may have a bad body ground, poor fusible link connection bad ignition switch..something slewing the voltage sensing at the alternator.Reflex paint by Langeman...Lifted...Tow Rig
