Oil in Intake System.

Hello Everyone. I have an issue that iv'e never had happen in all 31 cars iv'e owned.

While doing some basic upkeep on the festiva today i decided to look into the air filter.

Note that i have a 91 and a fuel injected system.

When i pulled the intake box off.


I looked inside and saw oil sitting right there on the inlet.

I pulled the Intake tube off and then saw this.



There was sooo much oil i had to investigate.

I pulled off just about every hose, cleaned them out and put them back in.

I checked the PCV valve and its functioning properly.

I should also note that i leak oil from just about every seal. Crank case, Valve Cover Gasket, basically theres oil everywhere. I don't seam to burn any tho, just leak it all out everywhere.

Does anyone have any idea why my system is pressurizing and forcing oil out everywhere?

I believe it could be bad rings as well. But im trying to rule that out. Fingers Crossed.

You said it!! Oil stacks up in the valve cover because air is coming upstairs fast enough
to hold it there. Carbon build up in the drain passages down through the head and carbon
sticking the rings only makes it worse.

The answer of course is to add turbo boost to hold it back down there..
Maybe on your new motor! They can run for a long while this way by being babied.

Yes, sorry to say, but looks like its time for a rebuild. If it doesn't smoke out the exhaust or burn oil, then the oil control rings are still functioning. That would indicate stuck or broken top rings or possible broke piston. Best to just do a compression test and see what you got. I ran mine for a whole summer after it got to be about like yours. I added a catch can in the hose that goes from the valve cover to the air intake tube. That helped keep oil out of the air filter and VAF, but it just prolongs the inevitable. Try to keep the oil changed and clean. If it starts to smell funny or get dark, change it...The blow-by gasses will contaminate the oil and the wear on other engine components like the cam journals and valve train will only be accelerated. If you do plan on doing a rebuild, the sooner the better.

This isn't something a bottle of seafoam might relieve, is it? My mom's Aspire seems to be drooling oil from the oil cap. It's not a bunch, but I have to say, this thread has me worried that I bought her a bad car.
