    I average 37mpg B3 with 5 speed... I drive probably 90% city. I have owned a total of 7 cars with B3's, 3 5speeds, 3 4speeds, and one auto Aspire... I have NEVER gotten better than 42mpg.

Interesting to see the BULL that FuelEconomy.gov is telling people these cars get, to get them to buy new cars:

do you guys notice a big difference between summer and winter driving. during the summer i got a consistant 37-38 in my aspire 5speed. but this winter i can tell its not nearly as good. doesnt help that my drive to work is about 6 miles. take 3 miles till the coolant gets to its stabil temp. i believe that the colder temps keep the fuel from atomizing as well as it needs to. so i figured i was getting around 34 mpg now, but its not super cold yet, no 20 degree mornings.

Every EFI car I've ever had got better MPG in the summer. Cold dry air is more dense and requires more fuel. There may be something to your atomization theory as well, IDK. Also consider the cold starts (extra rich A/F) and longer warm up times like you said, stiffer bearings and gears, etc..

Re: "drafting a semi". On trips from Ottawa to Florida I used to tuck in behind an 18-wheeler and get sucked along to save fuel, not the smartest thing to do from a safety standpoint, especially considering the size of vehicle I was driving, but I was younger and foolisher then.

When I worked "out of town" I averaged 42-43 during the warm months and 36-38 during the winter.

It was a couple of years ago when I took a highway trip and got a tick over 50 mpg. The mileage was uncorrected for the 155/80-13 tires so I don't know how much "better" it was.

So your telling us you do not have a record/log of your previous fill-ups for which you claim surprising mpg?

Things to keep in mind when doing your fuelly to get the most accurate results. If you put less than 5 gallons in then there isn't enough data to be accurate, aim for around 8 gallons. This will yield the most accurate results. If you would like to test that, fill up after 4 gallons and get your mpgs, then fill up 8 gallons and get your mpgs. It will become quite inconsistent.

Also try to have a method when filling. The difference from a full tank and where the pump stops is a pretty big difference, I like to get mine as full as possible.

Double check your Odometer and make sure it is accurate, use a gps/phone, mile markers, etc to make sure it is accurate. If you have something other than stock wheels it can be thrown off quite a bit. Sometimes even with the stock wheels.

That's all I can think of right now.

I've been driving my BP Festiva over 1,200 miles a week for the last 2 months and have been averaging 37.6 mpg (probably 85% interstate). That's in a BP, often times driving 80+ for hours.
