  • Need help quick!

    Hi,

I have a 88 4speed and went to Wendy's for lunch and came out and car will not turn over. The wipers work and Dash lights like park brake and stuff work but car will not turn over. I had to walk back to work and leave the car sit. Anyone know what I could try to do after work to get this thing to start or am I going to have to have someone drive 60miles one way and get me.

Any help what so ever will be useful.

    Thanks

First thing I would check are the wire connections on the starter itself. Ive had that happen to me before and it turned out the connections on the starter were corroded and covered with oil

      ummmm

POP the clutch! the great thing about the festiva is, it's small enough to push and pop the clutch by yourself!

gadelbert1: I was wandering about that, there was to much traffic in there at lunch time to try it but I wandered if one could do it by himself. How much does it take to do it by yourself... how fast do you need to be going to get it to fire?

PaulLehr: I have not had a chance to really look at it yet but where is the starter located on these 1.3l's? Can you see it easily from the top?

on a stick shift stand in front of the moter and look down to the right and you should see it on top of the transmission.

To jump start all you need is a downhill slope. If there is a slope to the parking lot, and you can push the car in position, you should be good. The nice thing about a small car like the Festiva is you can push it around by yourself. Put the car in first gear and depress the clutch. As soon as it starts rolling let the clutch out quickly. The momentum of the car will turn the engine over and if its otherwise okay it will start. Since the manufacturers took the hand cranks off cars jump starting is all there is. Hand cranking and jump starting are both just ways to turn the engine over without a starter motor.

i remember back in the 70s my friends brother has a Volkswagen square back and needed to pop the clutch to get it started so he told his girlfriend that had a big Chrysler furry to push him until 25mph so he could pop the clutch. to she goes up the street turns around and comes down the street at 25mph rear ends him pushing into the front yard.
