If it still slips in 2 or 1 then it's not a cable issue.

Fluid and filter change is easy. Other stuff is hard.

Really sounds like a fluid issue then.

I have some in the Festiva right now no problems in this cold weather. When I first got it did. Our Focus needs some as it has cold shift issues. Not saying that's your problem though..
I took your recommendation and did some research. Great reviews across the web, only nay sayers I've found were using the stuff in a trans with two feet in the grave already. Lubegard Red ($12.99 at O'rilley's) for 10 fl. oz. I put in 6 oz. today and was surprised how much better it was already. I don't think it's placebo, definitely no slipping when I shift from R-N-D.

I recognize your symptoms: no drive without sticking it into reverse first. Mine would do that if I got on it too hard before the trans was fully warmed up. I think it foams up the fluid. Regardless, if I got it to stick into reverse by revving, it would shift better into drive. Dumb procedure because you can break your rear trans mount... then find that automatic rear-trans mounts are impossible to find... then construct your own by hacking up a manual mount.

So I too can recommend a cheap experiment, the outcome might surprise you.

Good to hear it helped. Hopefully I have the same results in the Focus's trans. Also put some in it today. Think the prices went up to $12 the last time I bought some it was $10ish .
