  • Need help with throttle body and wiring...

We have 2 different throttle bodies down in the lab that my professor says are from a 1.6L mazda b-series. My problem is that I can't figure out which one I need to use because i'm not sure what they go to. They look pretty much the same except for the throttle position sensor. One of them has a 3 wire plug for the throttle position sensor and the other one has a 4 wire plug. The wire colors are the same except for the addition of a green/red wire added in the one with 4 wires.

I know this is not a great explanation but I didn't get to take pics of them while I was at school but if anyone can help me out and let me know what these 2 throttle bodies went to i'd appreciate it.

Thanks a ton. You wouldn't by chance have a wiring diagram that says what the 4 wires for the one with an auto goes to would you? I have some pages from a 90-97 Mazda 323 and Protege Haynes manual and the pages I have are for the 94 and earlier but they show only 3 wires for the "Throttle Sensor." Do I have the wrong diagrams here i'm looking at?

Thanks for the link but I didn't see anything that would have the wiring for what I need

Yes, search at 323Performance. That's where I found the info. I don't have it now, but you'll find it.

The 3-wire sonsors have only 3 positions - Idle, WOT and anything else gets the same signal in between. The 3 wires are IDL, WOT and GND.

The 4-wire sensors are vairable, with Idle, WOT, and a variable reference in between. The 4-wire CANNOT be wired to a 3-wire harness - I tried every combination. If you are going to the B6 ECU, you could add the 4th wire to the ECU which is compatible.
                hope that helps,
                jeff

Cool, thanks for that info, that will save me some headache. I'm wiring up a PRS stand alone engine management system to run the engine on the dyno for my thesis and it seems like the 3 wire will be less to deal with.

I went to the junkyard this morning to pull a throttle body and all of the 323's they had there were auto cars but I did find a 93 MX-3 that had a manual so I pulled the throttle body and harnesses off of it. Are the throttle body's for the 323's and MX-3's the same??

Thanks to everyone on this board that has helped with my questions. You guys have been VERY helpful.

Ok, my professor wants me to use the throttle body with the 4 wire TPS b/c he says it was off of a low mileage car. I bought some wiring diagrams for a 1992 323 from www.ahdol.com but they aren't answering all of my questions. Here is an image of the section that they have with the TPS wiring.

I'm thinking I might be missing some pages b/c I don't have anything explaining what the 1T, 2F, and 2I are.

If anyone can help i'd appreciate it.

Yeah, I know that but i'm trying to figure out the wiring for the stand alone ECU and need to know what each wire is (which is the signal, etc...)
