  • carburetor issues 1988 festiva

My 1988 festiva has a very high idle after driving on freeway, I took it to mechanic, he says its for the idle pull up-down, but can't get the parts! A refurbed carb is $400 any chances of getting good price on carb or servos?

Get a carb/emissions manual. I have one. I'll look up your issue.

I couldn't find anything about an "idle pull up-down". There's a fast idle system that can be unhooked if you can't fix it. Also make sure your secondary has not stuck open. You have to close it by tapping a small screwdriver through the front half of the front bore.

Don't get a refurb feedback carb. Get a Weber or an Escort carb. Do a search for "Weber conversion"

Unhook or remove what ever is holding it open, save the parts and see if its drive-able.

If you are not sure, duplicate the problem then wiggle things while it is running until you can see what is holding it open.

As said above, the escort carb is fairly cheap from a wrecking yard. Read up on the conversion to this carb on this web site before buying the stuff.

Take pics and post if it will help you ask us questions.

Spay with carb cleaner. Also exterior linkages. Inexpensive. Follow instructions on can.

The troubleshooting section 5 of this Mazda carb manual provides a very good reference for carb problems
